Argument from Consciousness to God
I am currently developing an argument for God’s existence from consciousness: God is the fundamental condition for the possibility of finite cognitive and perceptual experience; such experience is actual, so God exists. Comparatively few contemporary philosophers have argued from consciousness to God, and my strategy is novel in several ways. Most saliently, my argument is neither an inference to the best explanation nor an argument for general theism. Rather, I contend that a specific conception of God as absolute is the only possible explanation for consciousness. Any other terminus of explanation entails that reality’s unity is fundamentally relational, which contradicts the possibility of consciousness.
