Cameron Lugo

I am a PhD Candidate in Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame and a Visiting International Graduate Student at the University of Toronto. I hold a BA in Philosophy from Yale University (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with Distinction in the Major).

My Research

My AOS is medieval philosophy. My AOCs are early modern philosophy, philosophy of religion, and Reformed philosophical theology. My PhD dissertation treats Thomas Aquinas and Henry of Ghent on the conditions for the possibility of an acquired natural knowledge of God. Read more about my research interests.

My Teaching

My teaching centers on the most enduring (and fascinating) problems of philosophy, like Bradley’s Regress, Agrippa’s Trilemma, and the Meno Paradox. Medieval philosophy is a natural home for these questions. Teaching my first course as instructor of record, a Notre Dame distribution requirement, I received a 5.0/5.0 median rating from my students (86.7% response rate). Read more about my teaching.

When I’m Not in the Thirteenth Century

I’m an avid violinist and enjoy singing in a classical choir with my wife Giselle. We’ve also picked up ice skating recently, with modest success. A stray fact: I’ve moonlighted as a studio violinist. You can hear me (overdubbed on top of myself many times) in the last 30 seconds of Phillip Phillips’ “Long Time.”
